Healthcare: Building Wealth, Protecting Dignity
As a mother, faith leader, and someone who has personally experienced the challenges of economic hardship, I understand that true healthcare reform must go beyond coverage—it must create opportunity. I believe healthcare should not just treat illness; it should help families thrive.
While I honor the role that Medicaid plays in supporting the most vulnerable, we must also provide pathways out of poverty for those who desire a better future for themselves and their children. The Bible tells us, “The poor you will always have with you” (Matthew 26:11), and I believe that means we must never lose compassion. But compassion doesn’t mean permanent dependence—it means offering a hand-up, not just a handout.
That’s why I’m advocating for the expansion and modernization of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)—tax-free accounts that allow families to:
- Save and invest money for medical expenses,
- Use funds without penalties for qualifying care,
- Build wealth through untaxed growth and withdrawals.
HSAs are a Texas legacy, first championed by Senator Phil Gramm and expanded under President George W. Bush. But today, many Texans—especially seniors and working-class families—are being left behind. I believe that must change.
As your next Congresswoman, I will:
- Fight to expand HSA access to include more Texans, including those transitioning out of Medicaid and into financial independence,
- Support federal legislation that brings fairness to the system—offering the same tax-free health advantages to the working class that government employees already enjoy,
- Protect Medicaid for those who truly need it, while opening doors for others to become financially empowered through modern, family-centered health solutions.
This isn’t just about policy—it’s about dignity, opportunity, and freedom. Families deserve more than reactive care. They deserve a future where they’re empowered to save, grow, and leave a legacy.
And if that were not a viable asset, then why would government officials reserve it for themselves?
